Safe Environment for Children and Young People
Dear Members,
Creating and maintaining child-safe environments is a shared responsibility at the heart of our sport. We’re proud of the inclusive culture across the South Australian judo community and recognise the efforts clubs are making to meet their child safety obligations.
As part of our ongoing commitment, we remind all clubs and members of their responsibilities under South Australian child safety legislation and our shared duty of care.
All clubs should regularly review their child-safe practices, which include:
- Adopting and complying with the Judo SA Child Safe Environment Policy
- Adopting and complying with the Judo SA Child Safe Code of Conduct
- Meeting Working with Children Check (WWCC) obligations – these include ensuring that all personnel aged 14 and over, in either paid or volunteer roles, hold a valid WWCC.
- Fulfilling mandatory reporting requirements when there is a reasonable suspicion that a child or young person is at risk of harm.
For individual Judo SA and club members aged 14 and over who regularly contribute to clubs or Judo SA operations—in either paid or volunteer roles—please continue to ensure the following:
- Compliance with the Judo SA Child Safe Code of Conduct
- Maintaining a valid WWCC at all times
- Fulfilling mandatory reporting requirements when there is a reasonable suspicion that a child or young person is at risk of harm.
Note: If you have reasonable suspicion that a child or young person is at risk of harm or abuse, please call the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) – 13 14 78.
